Happy Mother's Day!  We hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.  Thank you to all the families who were able to make it to our Spring Music Performance.  The kids were adorable and did a fantastic job.  A special thank you to our music teacher, Mrs. Gooley for putting together such a special evening!

This Week in A2

Dear Families,

Thank you so much for visiting our Open House last Thursday!  The kids were so excited to show off all their hard work and introduce you to their chicks- Batman, The Force, and Tweety.  

We will be going to Hidden Villa Farm on Friday, May 27th.  Our tour is at 11am and we will be leaving school about 9:30am.  We will be returning around 1:30pm, but may be a few minutes late.  Unfortunately we only have a limited number of tickets so we have to limit the number of drivers/chaperones to adults who can drive their child + at least 2 additional kids.  Also, siblings and guests are not allowed on this field trip. If your child will not be able to attend, please let me know ASAP. Thanks so much!

We are excited to announce our chicks have hatched!  We have 3 beautiful chicks.  We will be naming them today.

4/19 Tuesday- Earth Day Assembly (Sea Otters), Music (11-11:30), Yoga 11:30
4/20 Wednesday- Homework Due * If you have not yet done so, please turn in your library book!  We didn't visit the library last Friday due to Jump Rope for Heart so many students have already turned in their books.
4/21 Thursday- Students will visit the library Thursday morning this week, afternoon yoga, Ruth's BD
4/22 Friday- College & High School Pride Day, Family Day (10:45-11:25),

• Sight Words: Please work with you child at home on reading, writing, and spelling sight words!  Many kids can already identify all 30 sight words, but still have trouble spelling/writing sight words.  Please work with them at home on identifying, reading, and writing their sight words. 

• Reading/Writing Workshop: Non-Fiction- Reading and Writing About Chickens

• Science: Lifecycle of the Chicken
• Yoga: Thank you all for your support in our integration of yoga into the classroom.  The kids have been doing an amazing job learning the poses and seem to enjoy it too.  If you're interested check out the program we are using-CosmicKids.  Why yoga?  Research has shown that school yoga has many benefits.  In addition to the wonderful benefits that yoga has on the physical well-being of children, school yoga has been shown to increase self-regulation and focus, as well as reduce problem behavior, test anxiety, and anger. (http://k-12yoga.org/) 

Announcements:
We need your help with a project we are doing for Open House.  We need 2- 4x6 somewhat closeup pictures of your child (a baby picture and a recent picture).  These pictures will not be returned.  We may need to cut off a little around the edges.  Please send these pictures (labeled on the back with your child's name)...no later than Wednesday, 3/30.
