This Week in A2

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all of the families who could make it to Back to School Night!  It was wonderful to see you.  If you were unable to make it, we place the Back to School Night envelope in your child's cubby (and it went home with him/her on Friday).  One packet explains a little bit about some of our classroom policies and procedures, such as star student, birthdays, etc.  The other packet is a practice packet with some of the concepts your child will need to know by the end of Kindergarten.  Practicing at home will reinforce what your child is learning in class and boost your child's confidence with these skills.

A few reminders:

1.   Homework Packets and Library Books due on Wednesdays.

2. Parent Teacher Conferences are 10/16-10/23.  We are looking forward to meeting with you to discuss your child's transition into kindergarten.  Please CLICK HERE to sign-up for a day and time.

3. Lemo's Farm permission slips and donations due ASAP.  Cost $12 per child and $3 per adult.  Donations can be made in cash or payable to Vallemar PTO to help off-set the cost of the field trip. This is a super fun field trip!  We would love it if you can join us.  To sign up to drive & chaperone, please CLICK HERE.

What We're Learning

  • Math: Calendar Math: Counting to 30, ID 2D & 3D shapes, ID colors, days of the week, months of the year, patterning, beginning place value, etc.  Sorting by color, shape, and size, counting 0-5 objects, writing numbers 0-5.
  • Language Arts: In Writers Workshop we are learning the procedures of the workshop, as well as drawing a picture and adding details and labels to tell a story. Last week we got our brand new writing folders (which we leave at school).  We will keep all of our writing in our folders until the end of the unit.  In Reading, we will continue to discuss the roll of author/illustrator, and apply our reading superpowers to the stories we read (prediction, connection, retell, reread, visualize, problem/solution).
