Class Rules/ Behavior

Please have a positive conversation with your child each day about the fun things he/she did at school and what he/she learned.  Ask your child to tell you about what color card he/she earned on the behavior chart and ask them to tell you about how they earned that color card.  Please praise your child for a green card...this means they had good behavior.  A yellow card is also considered a good card because it means he/she was warned once for not following a class rule and improved behavior.  If your child earned a yellow card, you may want to discuss with him/her the class rules and the importance of (and reasoning behind) the rule he/she was having trouble following.  Positively encourage your child to work on following that rule for the rest of the week.

  • GREEN CARD: Each day, every child starts with a green card (signifying good behavior).  At the end of the day, each child will receive a pom pom for his/her green card.  When a student collects 10 pom poms, he/she may redeem them for a prize or special privilege. *Students may also earn pom poms from the teacher for outstanding actions.
  • YELLOW CARD: If a student does not follow class rules, he/she may have to turn his/her card to yellow (signifying a warning and reminding the child of the rules).  * If a child has a yellow card, it is still considered a "good card" because it means that he/she was warned once and improved behavior.
  • BLUE CARD: If a student continues to break class rules, he/she may have to turn his/her card to blue (and will sit out for 5 minutes of recess- or an appropriate consequence).
  • RED CARD: If a student continues to break class rules after a blue card, he/she will have to turn his/her card to red (and will sit on the bench for recess & may meet with the principal).  Parents will be contacted either by the principal or the classroom teacher.
* If a child turns his/her card without permission, he/she may lose the privilege of participating in the card behavior system.
